You don’t need to worry about materials not arriving or trades contractors turning up late, it’s all taken care of for you which is so reassuring. He works alongside some extremely talented Tradesmen. James also offers his own input on how he would suggest layouts and any concerns you may have throughout the process.

We contracted James Hall for our new build because he was recommended by our architect, we were impressed by previous projects, his quote was competitive and because we felt we could have a good relationship with him. Our house was completed under budget and ahead of schedule, we were always included in every decision about the build and received expert and useful advice throughout the project. Something we really appreciated was that James Hall always responded promptly to phone calls, emails and texts and kept to a strict schedule. Without fail, every visitor or tradesman commented on how tidy the site was and what a pleasure it was to work on. Every trade was organised by James Hall and we were extremely happy with their professionalism and standard of work, including the electrician, plumber, kitchen fitter, MVHR installer, carpenter, taper/decorator and stone mason. Lastly, a very special mention to the James Hall Ltd team -we have lived in our house for 2 years now and it is a joy every day.

We moved up to Aberdeenshire in the summer of 2013 and set about finding a plot and fulfilling our dream of building a home of our own in which to live out our retirement years. We identified the architect we wanted to work with and by the summer of 2014 our plot was purchased and we started the design process with our architect. From a number of previous experiences with builders from different backgrounds we asked for recommendations for builders from a joinery background as historically they had always given us the best results, that led to the introduction to James Hall.
James joined us at the monthly planning meetings and provided valuable input on materials and suppliers. He also helped us understand the benefits of Icynene insulation which was a new concept for us and has proved invaluable in meeting our brief of an eco-friendly, well insulated house with minimal heating costs. There were some materials that we knew we wanted to use and James was very flexible about embracing our choices whilst also being able to let us know if he had serious doubts about something. The project ran on-time and to budget with the build starting in April 2015 and being ready for us to move in 9 months later. James ran the financial side in an organised manner and there were no surprises in the invoices. James also ensured that we knew what decisions were needed when as the build progressed which greatly alleviated any stress points on our side.
We had an objective of completing the project with the same architect and builder that we started it with and with everyone being happy with both the detail of the build and the end result. James and his team played a key part in meeting that objective. Indeed, they were all a delight to work with and although we have no intentions of repeating a build project that is entirely due to be 100% satisfied with what we have got. In 2015 James Hall erected a larch extension to my cottage. The extension had been designed by our architect who had recommended Jim as a specialist in this type of work.
From the start I found Jim a great guy to work with, friendly and responsive to any questions. The work ethic of his team was fantastic; they would arrive at the crack of dawn and leave late. The work was carried out with great attention to detail and to a high standard. The building was completed quickly, without delay and throughout the process Jim managed all the various trades to bring the extension to speedy completion. During the building process we were able to continue living in the property as the team worked around us causing the minimum disruption.
Five years later we are still delighted with the extension.

We used JHJ to build an extension and carry out internal alterations to our house. This was the first time we had done anything of this nature so we had several meetings with James to discuss how the work would progress. In hindsight, given his experience, it would have been good to have had him involved during the discussions with the architects.
When the work commenced James managed the various sub-contractors and ensured that they had the materials they needed. James was on site frequently and when necessary. If we were needed to make decisions, we were given the options and given time to decide.
The work was carried out to a high standard, problems were quickly resolved.
Icynene was used in the extension and we also decided to insulate part of our existing house and the loft. It has reduced the amount of heat we were losing through drafts. The loft space is much improved with the water pipes better protected against frost.
We also decided to install an MVHR system which has improved the air quality, we no longer have to have windows open, it has removed moisture from the bathrooms, and it has evened out the temperature throughout the house.
We are enjoying living in our new space and would be happy to recommend James and his team.
